Romanian Language Courses Abroad

Volunteer with host mother

Through Projects Abroad you have the opportunity to do an intensive Romanian Language Project in Moldova or Romania with fully-qualified teachers. As with all our one-on-one language courses, from the first lesson the pace will be tailored to suit your abilities and needs. A good understanding of Romanian will enable you to make the most of your free time in Moldova or Romania and really engage with the local people. Courses run 30 hours for two weeks and 60 hours a month.

Alternatively you can take a short 14-hour or 30-hour add-on course in Romanian. These courses are tailored to your needs and run alongside our other volunteer projects. If you are planning to spend at least three months in Moldova or Romania you can also choose to take a 60-hour course in conjunction with your main project. For more information please visit our Language Plus page.

Learn Romanian in Moldova

Man in a village

In Moldova, Romanian and Russian cultures meet and you can learn a great deal about the local culture in this unspoiled corner of Eastern Europe. Living with a Romanian-speaking family in Chisinau - the small and charming capital of Moldova - you will be able to explore the enchanting sights of this developing city while you immerse yourself in the Romanian language.

Chisinau blends European and Soviet influences with just a touch of 21st century chic. It's a great place for you if you love the arts, offering spectacular museums, galleries, operas, and ballets.

Projects Abroad also offers projects in Business, Care, Journalism, Medicine, Sports, and Teaching in Moldova. By starting your time in Moldova on a Language Project with two weeks or a month of classes in Romanian you will certainly benefit if you then choose to continue on another volunteer project. This would then allow you to put your new language skills to use in a practical work setting.

Learn Romanian in Romania

A Romanian Language Project in Romania will allow you to become fully immersed in the culture that gives the language its name. You will live with a Romanian-speaking host family in Brasov and will be able to explore the city while doing the course. Trips to the market and around town with your Romanian teacher will all be part of your lessons and will ensure you can use the language in real situations.

Projects Abroad offers many other projects in Romania as well, including Animal Care, Archaeology, Care, Dance, Drama, Journalism, Medicine, and Veterinary Medicine. Having spent one month studying Romanian would definitely help you if you then choose to continue on another volunteer project. This would then allow you to put your new language skills to use in a practical work setting and interact more with your local colleagues.
